Food Combining – What’s It All About

A lot of diets and techniques for eating come and go as fads - but one plan has recently been around for well over 100 years, and it has steadily gained credit.

So much so which it has stealthily become a fundamental element of many other healthy eating plans which may have been developed more recently.
The eating plan I'm talking about is Food Combining, sometime referenced to as the Hay Plan, after Dr Bill Howard Hay who emerged up with this way of eating for good health to begin with around for well over 100 years, and it has continuously gained credence.
So much so that this has uninterrupted become an important part of many other healthy eating plans which may have been developed more lately. Thinking about food combining is very very easy... but it's not particularly easy until you get both your brain and your body used to it.

So What Is Food Combining All About?

In food combining there actually are only 3 categories of food - carbohydrates, proteins, and neutrals. And the "plan" simply involves keeping your carbohydrates and your healthy proteins for separate meals - the neutrals can be eaten alongside anything.
Presently there are no restrictions how much you can eat, and there's no keeping track of calories... in fact "fats" are classed as simple, and while you're not encouraged to overload on the fats, they're not seen as the source of all evil because they are in many other diets.
There exists of course more to the plan than this, nevertheless for most people, just using the rule of keeping aminoacids and starches separate will be all you need to make a difference.
So how and why is it meant to work?
Well, one important thing We like about Food Combining is the fact it's emphasis is on health and energy rather than directing on weight loss. The concept is based around the reality proteins and carbohydrates need very different environments in order to be separated and completely digested.

So when Proteins arrive in our stomach, our system produces a very acidic mixture of digestive juices, because proteins need to be broken down in acid. On the other hand, carbohydrates begin to be broken down in the saliva in the mouth, creating an alkali mixture, which then goes into the stomach, before passing on to the small intestine where it will continue to be digested if it has been broken down enough already.
Now you don't need to be a grade A research student to keep in mind that Stomach acids and Alkalis are opposites. So if, in the middle of an chemical p rich environment, you add some alkali in the form of the wrecked up starchy food, they will cancel the other person away.
In other words, put both carbohydrates and aminoacids into your stomach at the same time, and neither are likely to be thoroughly split up before they pass through in to the intestines.
On the other hand, if we keep proteins and carbohydrates independent, they can be totally and thoroughly broken down in the right intestinal mixture, so your body can access all of the nutrients from them. This kind of way we utilise more from our food, we build up less squander, and we process everything in a quicker, clean, more effective way.
It is suggested that eating this way has many health and wellness benefits, as well as helping to banish urges and indigestion, achieve our body's ideal weight (either gaining or reducing your weight depending on what our physiques need) and even get rid of flatulence!

Even your traditional meat and two veg - it's fine if you don't have potatoes with it - and who doesn't like rich creamy mash with their lamb chops? However, simple sandwich more often than not has various meats, fish, cheese or ovum in it...
The undigested food stays in your digestive tract and putrefies, creating a toxic environment which makes your blood more acidic and allows fungus, viruses, cancer cells and parasites to grow inside you. In essence, your inner ecosystem is broken and you are more prone to illness – Body Ecology 
Thus, we're back to the fact that it's a basic concept, but not easy to go by.
In case you add to that the fact that food pairing suggests that we should drink within half an hour of either the start or the end of a meal (as it merely requires dilutes the intestinal juices), then we've received another big habit to break in order to make this work.

Is Food Combining A Fallacy?

Right now there are plenty of researchers out there who will maintain that the idea of food combining is a fallacy. But strangely enough enough I've yet to learn such a comment from a scientist who has actually looked at the real detail behind food combining.
For example, some will say, "this is nonsense - almost all of our food has a mix of carbohydrates and healthy proteins in it anyway, so we can't truly divide these foods out. Have most fruits and fresh vegetables - they are really filled with sophisticated carbohydrates and plant aminoacids. How do we split them? "

But if they just looked a little closer into food combining, they will immediately see that it identifies targeted carbohydrates and concentrated aminoacids. So to count as a protein in conditions of food combining, a food must be made up of at least even just the teens protein. Similarly for carbohydrates.

Food Combining Is A Fascinating Approach…

to nutrition which has been adopted into many eating plans, and I actually expect to write much more about it in the future, including how to make it much easier to handle.
